Hello reader!
Yesterday evening just after watching the latest episode of Game of Thrones I finished yet some more terrain for my gaming board: three modular forests.
The single trees can be taken off to make place for regiments and the like.
On the back of the forest bases I added a thin piece of cardboard and painted it dark brown on the visible side. Thus the bases can be lifted without the trees staying on the tabletop or dangling in mid-air.
Furthermore, I kept the bases themselves quite flat so I don't have problems placing the regiments smoothly.
Hello and welcome to my blog "Brush And Miniature Torture"!
What will you find in here? Of course everything about my armies, conversions, paint jobs, terrain, and latest commission works for Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy - and more! Enjoy and comment in English or German! I'm also happy about every follower.

Casualty Counters & Fences
Hello there,
This week my parcel from war-bases.co.uk arrived, containing some casualty counters.
With these brilliant little things you can keep track of how many wounds your units have suffered so far (or use them as turn counters etc.).
For me they are predestinated for my Kings of War matches to come. Thus we can avoid placing dice next to the regiments which can easily be flipped over or be mistaken for regular dice to roll.
Also, I took up painting some new terrain for my future gaming board as I don't have any fantasy-related pieces.
The first parts to be finished were three fences as they represent nice obstacles for hindered charges and line of sight blockers. Using some coffee chopsticks from McD and sprue leftovers, they were cheap and easy to do, too.

All I did was glueing Green Stuff molds of skull bases on top of them, adding some bird sand with PVA glue and paint them up. Some Iceland moss and tufts of grass gave them their final touch.

A worthy temple for the Ruinous Powers
Greetings, fellow worshippers of the true lords of the Universe and those poor souls who haven't realized yet..
For the upcoming 200 pts. tournament on Saturday I painted the Chaos Temple I built many months ago. It will serve as my army's display base at the tournament and also as a terrain piece with house rules for battles in my appartment among friends.
Many more photos after the jump!

Oh glorious Chaos... terrain
Yet another piece for my Chaos themed gaming board got cut out today. The idea came upon me while sitting in my block course being bored.

Domestic Chaos Brawl / Blog Reconstruction
Some of the more thoroughly readers among you might have noticed the changes in my blog that came with a reconstruction of the layout. I also added a banner to the top of the page. I hope you like it! I'd also be very happy if you follow my blog via Google Friend Connect and becoma a "Disciple". :)
Earlier this day, I had a 1,750 pts match with my flat mate and his Thousand Sons + allied Daemons.
He fielded:
- Chaos Sorcerer (Mastery Level 3)
- Blue Scribes
- 6 Flamers of Tzeentch
- 3x 6 Thousand Sons
- 2x 6 Horrors + Changeling
- 9 Screamers
- 2x 6 AC-Havocs
- 1 Aegis w/ Quad gun
My host featured:
- 1 Chaos Sorcerer (Mastery Level 2)
- 1 Daemon Prince w/ Armour, Wings, and the Black Mace
- 10 Iron Warriors w/ Plasma gun and AC
- 2x 10 Cultists w/ Heavy Stubber
- 20 Cultists w/ Shotgun and Flamer
- 2 Heldrakes
- 2 Forgefiends
- 3 Obliterators
- 1 Aegis w/ Quad gun
Unfortunately, my friend's army is only partially painted and his Aegis Defence Line consisted of painting pots and a schnapps glass, so I only took some crappy photos of my deployment:
The game ended after round 5 and my opponent won with a 3 points margin: Slay The Warlord, First Blood and 2 Objectives. I only held 1 Objective. Just for fun we kept playing until the end of round 7 - it would have been a draw then.

IF tank wreck done
The Imperial Fists tank wreck is finished. It was quite some fun to paint it and disfigure it afterwards. :D

Tank wreck ready to be painted
I glued the tank wreck on its base and applied sand on the base. Now this terrain piece is ready to be primed and painted. Once this is done, the previously showed dead Imperial Fist will be added.

First ruins painted
I primed the first 3 ruins yesterday evening and finished painting on them just some minutes ago. It took almost as much time to apply color to them as building them. I really thought it would take less time.
Anyway, here are some pics. Unfortunately, one hardly sees the drybrushed highlights on the concrete.

Ruins built
I've spent several hours with cutting und glueing yesterday and today and now I've done with the 5 ruins (my cat also likes them):
Now I only have to find the sheet of balsa wood which must be somewhere here and then I can start boarding up some of the windows. And as soon as I'm back at my apartment I'll add some sand and rubble.

Mortar tower
Done! The tower's finished and I'm quite content with the outcome. The rust effect on the top will dissolve a little bit once the matt varnish is applied.

I think I'm in a terrain building flow
The ideas keep coming to my mind and I'm happily building and realizing them. Here's a preview of my current piece of terrain.
It's a high tower (for whatever purpose) and atop of it a renegade with a mortar took a stand but got killed by a sniper:

Death to all Imperial Fists
Like I said, I plan on doing a tank wreck for my gaming board and it'll of course be a IF Rhino. This morning I painted the tank's former driver:

First terrain pieces finished
I've painted the first terrain pieces for my "Terra Torn Asunder" themed gaming board: 4 of GW's craters
I decorated them with some sand, plastic card, a dead Iron Warrior (poor mate!) and some other stuff.

New gaming table for private purpose only
I already own a gaming table with a good deal of terrain pieces but as I made it available for use on various tournaments of our club so far it is in a rather bad condition. Many people simply don't appreciate the work invested in building and painting good looking terrain and thus treat it badly.
I decided to "donate" the gaming board inclusive the terrain to our club and build a new one for private purpose only, i.e. when I play with friends at my place. It will be the best looking terrain I've built so far and will match my Lost and the Damned and Iron Warriors relating to base design, details and gimmicks.
I guess it's already more than 1.5 years ago when I saw a nice tutorial on the web on how to build Czech hedgehogs. I liked it a lot and therefore built some of my own:
They will be adorned with some barbed wire I make of locking wire:
For the center of the board I plan on building a 3 to 4 stories high bombed tenement block. The ground floor's windows will be boarded up so it serves as a line of sight blocker. Around this I'll build four to five 2-3 stories high buildings. The "streets" and outskrits will be filled by the Czech hedgehogs mentioned above, craters, tank wrecks, piles of rubble and debris, oil barrels etc. I'm really looking forward to this project for my semester break.
